On this episode of BTG, I do the teardown and inspection of a junkyard STI motor. The parts were all bought second hand in varying conditions for about what it would cost to buy a long block at a self-service junkyard.
My goal is to build the cheapest STI motor and drop it into my Outback XT that suffered a rod knock last year. The short block was purchased for $150 from a friend out of a 04 Forester XT with a failing head gasket and the heads were purchased as part of a mega-part out lot with enough parts to build the motor.
